488. The Hunger – Seven Day Jesus

THE HUNGER (1996)

Seven Day Jesus

5 Minute Walk Records consistently discovered unbelievably original talented bands like Black Eyed Sceva, Five iron Frenzy and Dime Store Prophets. The band that should have been the biggest success was Seven Day Jesus. Original, groove induced alternative rock with fantastic lead vocals, the band looked and sounded like a no-brainer.

They did garner some wonderful critical success, but after their national debut listed here they signed with Forefront, went considerably more commercial and then simply disappeared. It’s a real shame. Quite a lot of talent and originality permeated the nationally released debut as they seemed to combine the strong alternative sound, heavy crunchy guitars with great pop sensibilities and some jazz-like fusions.  Another in the long list of “shoulda beens”

It’s amazing this band didn’t go anywhere. Like you said the seem like a no-brainer, especially with songs like butterfly.
