460. Everyone’s Beautiful – Waterdeep

Everyone’s beautiful and that includes this band and especially this project. Primarily seen an alternative worship band, this album branched a little more into rock and mainstream content lyrically. Waterdeep is husband and wife combination of Don and Lori Chaffer.

There is this powerful dynamic on this album between the sadder and darker moments in life juxtapose against the hope and faith found in Christ. Touches of Dylan and Neil Young combined with the White Stripes and The Innocence Mission are seen throughout with a combination of ethereal, atmospheric sounds and straight, stripped down rock and roll.

Introspective, creative…borderline indulgent, in a good way, this remains the best Waterdeep project from beginning to end.

Have to give this a comment. I love “Sweet River Roll” which is actually re-worked from an earlier album. My top Waterdeep choice is still, Sink or Swim. Equally catchy but not as calculated.

I personally find Waterdeep a refreshingly different and very talented band (in the otherwise cookie cutter CCM market. Each release reveals a new creative branch in the Waterdeep tree. Pink and Blue deserves mention on this list as well as each of their live albums. Their solo albums are also very moving and introspective.
