463. Sincerely Yours – Gary Chapman

SINCERELY YOURS (1981)

Gary Chapman

Sometime between writing Amy Grant’s mega-classic “Father’s Eyes” and marrying said superstar, Gary Chapman recorded his first solo project. It is filled with great Christopher Cross type light pop. But no matter the genre Chapman keen songwriting skills shine through,

The album received quite a bit of critical acclaim and was helped along by contributions by labelmates DeGarmo and Key and an appearnce or two from his future wife. They would tour together and back up Gary later on tour and on a live album. They would also back up Gary’s future bride on her two live albums. Once the listener gets past the first two clearly “made for CCM radio” pop tunes, the album delves into deeper things, both musically and lyrically.

He and Grant would later go through a very public divorce but Gary would go on to a very successful music and TV career.

“Great” and “Christopher Cross”. Two mutually exclusive terms.

Okay, and I thought I was the only one. His albums get right to the heart, and getting to be married to Amy for a while too, kinda makes him pretty cool. ” Cuz when we’re together love’s so strong, feel’s I can take the whole world on. if it’s gonna rain I don’t care, I can take the pain if you’re there…everything is better, when we’re together…….

Love Gary’s albums, there is always a few gems on them.
In the 80’s & 90’s Gary’s set was always the highlight for me when the Amy Grant tour rolled through.
