464. You – The Kry
Two long haired brothers from the French Canadian city of Quebec meet youth Pastor from a Calvary Chapel outside of San Diego and a band was born that had hit after hit throughout the mid-90s. “You” was their most successful and best project from start to finish.
Their lyrics will never be mistaken for those of Mark Heard and Terry Scott Taylor, as simplicity was the key, but their infectious grooves, passionate ballads and upfront “ministry first” mentality was what the band was all about. There are very few pop rock albums in Christian music history in which every song could have been a hit.
Part Spin Doctors, part Eagles, part Bryan Adams, the Kry knew how to write a memorable hit whether it was a top dpwn beach cruisin’ rocker or a soaring and heartfelt ballad. It is too easy for critics to write the band off for not being cool or creative enough and, as a result, those same critics missed some great, well crafted melodies.
One special song of note is the nearly 7 minute finale I Believe In You.” Starting slow and changing directions a few times throughout the seven minutes, this song finishes with a great flurry and passion, and proves the bands musicianship as well.
