190. Reborn – Living Sacrifice
Simply put, Living sacrifice is one of the most influential and important bands in Christian metal history. Boundaries were broken and complacency was shattered with their hybrid of death metal, thrash metal and just plain old freakin’ heavy metal. And with “Reborn” they forged new ground musically, sonically and lyrically.
The album easily ranks among the very best the industry has ever produced. Combining samples from movies, blinding guitar riffs and borderline, violent musical attacks, Reborn distinguishes itself from the pack as a triumph in the genre. It is also with this album that guitarist Bruce Fitzhugh took over lead vocals and lead the band on its most successful run in its storied history.
This is not for the feint of heart and many “uninitiated” struggle with the genre itself and refuse to see its mastery within the musical scape. Lyrically the band continued with its provocative and biting commentary from a distinctly Christian perspective. many within the genre are avid students of theology and Living Sacrifice is no different. Subjects ranging from total depravity and original sin to grace and reconciliation all permeate this project.
